Photographing the Museum

Lysiane Gauthier works for the photographic service of the cultural institutions.

Within the photo lab, which is fully equipped to handle any new request for a photograph, she produces reproductions of works and precious objects from the permanent collections or temporary exhibitions for publication, the media, communication, archives, databases, university work and researchers.

She is also involved in recording the life of the museum: exhibition installations and inaugurations, cultural events, conferences, workshops for children and adults, birthday parties at the museum.
Taking part in the inventory activities relating to the museum's collections also falls within the remit of the photographer.
Introducing trainee photography students to the museum is a further part of her daily work.

All photographs are now produced using digital media. This enables greater flexibility (shots taken in the laboratory, in the exhibition spaces or outdoors); however, it also involves a great deal of post-production work in selecting, retouching, identification and sampling files. This time must be taken into account in calculating the delivery date for photographs.

In the interests of greater organisation and efficiency, any request for a photograph must be sent in writing to the photo library, from where it will be communicated to the photography service.
